Pied EPIFISA

Curved centromedullary nail for percutaneous treatment of epiphyseal fractures - be POD

The EPIFISA centromedullary nail makes it possible to realign the fracture site, hold it in place and restore dynamism quickly.
It is implanted using a small, extra-focal approach. The nail is blocked thanks to a self-tapping thread on its head, which is screwed into the cancellous bone.

Indications

The EPIFISA nail was developed for the percutaneous treatment of simple fractures of the distal end of the fibula.

There are 3 types of fibular fracture:
  • intra-ligament fractures,
  • supraligament fractures,
  • sub-ligament fractures.

EPIFISA is only used in cases of intra-ligament fractures.

The concept

Treating fractures with EPIFISA makes it possible to maintain the fracture site closed and to preserve the perifracture haematoma.
EPIFISA requires only a minimal approach and helps prevent cutaneous necrosis.

Thanks to the simple instrument set, the malleolus is perforated in a highly precise manner.
Inserting the nail makes it possible to reduce the fracture by aligning the two bone fragments.
Nailing the cancellous bone results in efficient stabilisation and good support for weight-bearing.

Products characteristics

The EPIFISA nail is slightly tapered, to make it easier to implant, and has at its tip a self-tapping head 9 mm in diameter that is mobile around its axis and which makes it possible to block the nail in the cancellous bone.
Its head has a screw mark with 3.5 to 6 hollow faces.

There are 4 sizes of EPIFISA nail :
  • L70mm (ref. 223 165),
  • L90mm (ref. 223 166),
  • L110mm (ref. 223 167),
  • L130mm (ref. 238 821).

The most commonly used nail length is the 70 mm as fractures are very often low down.

Material : With a diameter of 5 mm at its base, the nail is made from a TA6V4 titanium alloy.
