GECO : Study Group for bone surgery

GECO is an Alsace/Moselle local law association. It was created in April 1976 by a group of young surgeons.

Missions

  • Sharing knowledge for better care,
  • Evaluate professional practices in orthopedics - traumatology
  • Training with the current techniques the surgeons and the paramedical professions.
  • Publishing orthopaedics works.

The quality of the work published by this scientific association for more than 30 years, has been worth to him to gain a broad recognition in France, but also abroad.

In order to answer a preoccupation with a greater specialization, the GECO animates several dedicated groups :

  • AGREG ( Research and study group for the knee),
  • FUTURA (Research and study group for the hip),
  • GRAAL (Group of research and action for improvement in ligamentoplasty),
  • TALUS (Research and study group for foot and ankle surgery),
  • PRO BIOMATERIA (Research group on bio-materials),
  • VENUS (Research group for upper extremity surgery).

Chacune de ces structures réunit à intervalles réguliers une vingtaine de membres dont les travaux peuvent être enrichis par des chirurgiens extérieurs.

Each one of these structures is composed of twenty members. They meet together with regular intervals and their work can be enriched by external surgeons.

The GECO's speciality groups organize individual technical training courses in surgical units and continuous medical training courses, framed most of the time by GECO FORMATION : independent association dedicated to the Continuous Medical Training (FMC).

The Enlarged Meeting of the GECO also joins together, each year and during several days, 250 orthopedic surgeons, who take part in his work while bringing their experiments and their knowledge.
Each year, the GECO rewards the author for a european work of Evaluation in orthopedy and traumatology.

A collection of scientific books and an active participation in EJOST review , allow the GECO to diffuse a large part of its work.
