The final course of the GECO TALUS group brought together 200 surgeons from France and abroad (over 6 different nationalities) on Saturday 16 May 2009, in Paris...

...at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France.

For over 18 years, the TALUS group has met annually to brainstorm, share and exchange regarding techniques used and developments in these techniques, with a shared passion for foot and ankle surgery.
Numerous courses have been held on this theme, at regular intervals since 1991. The most recent include:

  • PARIS 2004 – Achilles tendon pathologies (120 participants);
  • LYON 2004 – Direct forefoot surgery : scarf, chevron, base, minimally invasive, dynamic metatarsal osteotomy (150 participants);
  • MADRID 2005 – Foot surgery : Hallux Valgus & techniques, ankle prosthesis, Achilles tendon ruptures (60 participants);
  • ROUEN 2006 – Forefoot surgery : Hallux Valgus & lesser digits – Advanced course (120 participants).

The theme of this year’s session was: “Hallux Valgus in 2009?”.
4 surgeries were broadcast “live” from the Geoffroy St Hilaire Clinic (Paris), including 3 Hallux Valgus surgeries using various techniques, from most invasive to least invasive: Chevron (Dr Determe, Toulouse), Chevron minimally invasive (Dr Cermolacce, Marseille), and Chevron percutaneous (Dr Laffenetre, Bordeaux)

The morning programme ended with an arthrodesis carried out by the president of the TALUS group, Dr Diebold (Nancy).

The afternoon session provided an opportunity for numerous exchanges with the audience regarding all traditionally-used techniques (scarf, chevron, minimally invasive, combined minimally invasive surgery etc…) and ended with a discussion on clinical cases.
